3 Steps for Solving the Pressure Regulators Issues

At the industrial level, the most important thing to maintain is accuracy. As we know accuracy is the key to success so it’s crucial to maintain it for the correct happenings of various processes. Because different industrial fluid systems require strong control of the pressure, flow, temperature etc. An electronically controlled pressure regulator is one of the key components in achieving the desired accuracy. Today, these devices have got too much popularity among people because of their accuracy and reliability. But over time they become prone to malfunctioning.

The failure of an electronic pressure regulator can lead to heavy repairs. That’s why it’s important to identify a failing pressure regulator and perform the necessary repairs before it becomes a big problem.

Before checking your pressure regulator, determine the requirement of the system such as the pressure requirement, temperature, flow, sensitivity of process and type of media that has to flow through the regulator. It will provide you with the essential insights that will help you to determine whether you have installed the correct pressure regulator or not. Installing the wrong electronically controlled pressure regulator will lead to unnecessary pressure fluctuations. These fluctuations can destroy the whole process and can break down the system. Determine the Nature of the Issue:

If you are still not having the desired value even after having the right type of digital pressure regulator installed in the system then it means you need to determine the nature of the issue. You should check the pressure whether it’s going up from the set limit or dropping down. This information will help you to find the correct solution to the issue. Generally, there are two issues that can cause the pressure to rise one is the creep and the other is Supply Pressure Effect(SPE). 

Creep happens whenever debris flows through the electronically controlled pressure regulator and mostly just after the installation. Debris forms a fine gap between the poppet and the seat of the regulator. It results in an unwanted pressure increase and this can be dangerous if the components of the regulator can not handle the high pressure. The chances of Creep can be reduced by installing the regulator with great care or using a filter. 

The identification of SPE is very simple. A pressure increase in the outlet pressure of the electronic pressure controller due to the variation of inlet pressure indicates SPE.  

On the other, if the pressure is decreasing from the set value, then it means that the installed control pressure regulator is undersized and it’s becoming difficult for the regulator to keep the pressure equal to the set value. If it’s the case, then you should get the correct size regulator and install it in your system.

Once you understand the nature of the issue you should try to resolve it on your own. But if you are not reaching an accurate solution then it’s good to consult with an experienced person who can perform the necessary changes or repairs to the electronic regulator.
